The kind of event that can only be dreamed of in many parts of America was just another Saturday in San Francisco’s busy holiday season.
Pungent, flavorful, artisanal, small-batch, high-THC, eco-friendly bud from Berkeley swept the City’s annual, patient-judged medical cannabis contest Saturday — the 9th Annual San Francisco Patients’ Choice.
First place in indica strains went to Berkeley’s Clean Green-certified C.R.A.F.T. Collective for their Raspberry Cookies. CRAFT swept first place in the Sativa (Super Lemon Haze), Hybrid (Tahoe Chem) and High CBD (CBD OG) flower categories, as well. “Clean Green” is an independent, 3rd-party certification growers can get to ensure patients their product is pesticide-free and sustainably grown.
The Berkeley delivery-only collective’s staff accepted a shelf of crystal trophies Saturday evening at the chic Terra Gallery in SOMA, after a day-long cannabis exhibition paired with local food, and entertainment. Several hundred medical cannabis aficionados mixed and mingled at what’s become the Bay Area’s most intimate, best-orchestrated weed event.
The event on Rincon Hill was low-key and high-caliber, with a large outdoor exhibition patio for folks with a recommendation to use medical marijuana.
On offer: new, micro-dosed edibles, hyper-discrete vape pens, and app-based weed delivery services. Selekta Lou, Red Hots Burlesque, Manicato, and Mystic Roots provided the entertainment.
And true to their roots, The Green Cross staff lit a half-pound joint worth at least $900 of OG Kush at 4:20 p.m.
While most Cups are celebrity or industry-judged, patients chose the winner of the Patients’ Choice each year. Anyone who buys a Judge’s Pack — which costs several hundred dollars — becomes eligible to vote in the Bay Area-focused competition. This year’s Judge’s Pack featured dozens of items in eleven categories.
The Best Medical Edible trophy went to IncrediMeds for their Milk Chocolate Bar with Toffee Pieces. IncrediMeds also took Best Sativa and High CBD edible.
In the topicals category, the Green Cross’ Avocado Body Balm placed first, followed by Xternal’s Rub, and HealTHCare’s All-Over Body Butter. Here’s the full list of winners.
